Questions

We’ve had a flood of questions: where does the route go exactly? What is the percentage of road/track etc? Do we ride everything? What if its raining? And so forth...here are some answers, the rest should be on the site if you have another read...

• We are not planning to give out detailed maps until the event, sorry. The course is mostly on private land so we are keeping it largely under wraps. There is very little road, sealed or shingle.

• Its two person teams only this year, and both riders must ride together the whole time on every stage. In the future this might change and we may bring in a running option, but this year we are sticking to the basics.

• Prizes...will be a mix of cash and product prizes, cash for the top teams and product as special and stage prizes. We are working with sponsors to finalise the prizes and will let you know as soon as we do.

• Volunteers, we need you and reckon you would have a wicked time, but you’ve got to register as we can’t cater for everyone. Have a look on the site and give us a call if you’ve got any questions.

• The course is incredibly weatherproof, but as we are going to be climbing high on a number of days you’ll need to be prepared for all conditions. By that we mean snow, 38 degree baking hot sun or gale force Norwest wind. Each night we will have updated weather reports and may specify gear to be carried on the following stage. If you need gear, call in and see Graeme at R&R in Christchurch www.rrsport.co.nz.

Tips

The sun is out and full shell gear has been banished to the garage, if you can get the odd long ride in and start building up toward Christmas the Alpine Epic is definitely achievable. While you’re out we suggest getting in some practise carrying your bike uphill. A few bits of the course we guarantee no-one will be able to ride, and knowing the best way to hold your bike can make a big difference.
